The Flying Carpet is located West of Florence on Highway 20. Most of our customers come from Huntsville, Decatur, Birmingham, Memphis, Nashville, or various points in Mississippi. Select the directions most appropriate to your point of origin:

Huntsville/Madison/Athens:

Take Highway 72 West from Huntsville and follow it all the way to Florence. The first major intersection when you get to Florence will be the intersection of Highway 133, also known as "Cox Creek Parkway." There will be a Kmart on the left, a Lowe's on the opposite left corner, and Barnhill's Buffet on the opposite right corner.

Turn right onto Hwy 133 and follow it until it dead-ends at Highway 20. This will be about five miles and passes outside the city limits of Florence. Don't worry if you think you've gone too far. There will be a couple of miles of "nothing" before 133 ends.

Turn right onto Highway 20. As you turn on to Hwy 20 you will notice that it is a divided four-lane. After almost exactly one mile the four-lane will merge back into a two-lane. Immediately after the merge our driveway and sign are on the right. The building is set back off the highway and is not visible. Follow the driveway and you'll find the metal building of the shop about 120 yards back.

Approximate driving time: 1 hour, twenty minutes

Decatur:

Take Highway 20/Alternate 72 West towards Muscle Shoals. Basically you'll just follow the signs and stay on Highway 20 West through Muscle Shoals and bypass Florence. Just outside of Muscle Shoals you will have to make a right at an intersection to stay on 20 West. This will take you through Muscle Shoals and on to another intersection (just past the National Guard Armory and the State Trooper's building) where you'll turn right again, to stay on 20.

After you cross the bridge from Muscle Shoals into Florence, the very first exit sign will direct you to exit right to stay on Hwy 20. This will take you down and to the right, then will cut back underneath the previous roadway. From this point it is approximately six miles to our driveway.

Follow Hwy 20 West from the bridge for about five miles and the highway will open out into a divided four-lane. After almost exactly one mile the four-lane will merge back into a two-lane. Immediately after the merge our driveway and sign are on the right. The building is set back off the highway and is not visible. Follow the driveway and you'll find the metal building of the shop about 120 yards back.

Approximate driving time: 50 minutes

Birmingham:

Take Interstate 65 North to Exit 310 (Culman), Highway 157. Turn left onto 157 North and follow it about 45 minutes to the outskirts of Muscle Shoals. You will know you're getting close to Muscle Shoals when you have to stop at an unusual stop sign placed at the intersection of Hwy 157 and Hwy 20/72.

After the unusual stop sign simply follow the signs for Highway 20 West. You will come to a major intersection where you'll have to turn right to stay on 20.

Approximate driving time: two hours

Memphis:

Take 72 East through Germantown, Mississippi, and into Alabama. There are two ways to get to the shop once you get into Alabama - over the Natchez trace or through Muscle Shoals. Taking the Trace is actually about fifteen minutes shorter. It all depends upon whether or not you want to drive through the countryside.

To take the Trace, exit Highway 72 at the "Natchez Trace Parkway" exit. This is County Road 21. Follow the exit around and turn right to head Northeast on the Trace. Shortly you will cross over the Tennessee River on a long bridge. Right after the bridge is a sign to Florence - do NOT take this exit. Continue on the Trace until you see another Florence exit, also labeled to Highway 20. Exit onto Hwy 20 and turn left to head East towards Florence. In approximately 9 miles you'll see that the highway ahead is opening up into a divided four-lane from the current two-lane. Just before the road widens you'll see our driveway and sign on the left. If you miss the turn and find yourself on the four-lane you can turn around in a median 500 feet down the road.

To take the more direct route, follow 72 all the way to the outskirts of Muscle Shoals. You'll come to a major intersection which will require you to turn left to continue following Highway 72. From this point on simply follow the signs for Highway 20 West.

From this point it is approximately six more miles to our driveway.

Approximate driving time: two hours

Nashville:

The simplest route from Nashville is to take Interstate 65 South to Exit 351 at Athens, Alabama. Turn right to go West on 72 and follow it for another 45-50 minutes to Florence. The first major intersection when you get to Florence will be the intersection of Hwy 72 and Highway 133, also known as "Cox Creek Parkway." There will be a Kmart on the left, a Lowe's on the opposite left corner, and Barnhill's Buffet on the opposite right corner.
